Under the State Government Employees Salary Package Scheme, a compensation cheque of ₹1 crore was handed over to the family of Sharanappa, an employee of the Social Welfare Department in Deodurg in Karnataka, who died in a road accident.
The cheque was presented by Karnataka’s Minister for Minor Irrigation, Science, and Technology Ajay Dharam Singh during the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations organised at the Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium in Raichur on November 1.
The handover was facilitated in co-ordination with officials from the State Bank of India (SBI) and the Raichur district unit of the Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association.
Expressing his condolences to the bereaved family, Dr. Ajay Singh highlighted the role of government insurance schemes in offering critical financial security to families during moments of crisis.
Recalling Sharanappa’s services, the Minister assured the family that both the government of Karnataka and the employees’ association would stand by them in their time of grief.
Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Shavantageri, President of the Raichur district unit of the State Government Employees’ Association, urged the victim’s family to utilise the compensation funds judiciously to secure their children’s education and ensure long-term stability for the household.
Deputy Commissioner Poovitha S., Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Ishwar Kumar Kandoo, Superintendent of Police Arunangshu Giri, Raichur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Jubin Mohapatra, and SBI representative Sitabai were among those present.
