The shooting happened after the annual college football rivalry game between Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University, at Legion Field.
Police were called to the 400 block of Graymont Avenue West at around 7:50 p.m. where officers found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Early Sunday, police confirmed that one of the shooting victims was in critical condition, while seven others were listed as stable and receiving treatment.

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin released a statement on Saturday night condemning the shooting, describing it as an act of "senseless violence".
"Our community is hurt, shaken and rightfully angry. So am I," Woodfin said.
He said there was no justification for the violence, particularly during an event intended to bring people together in celebration.
"There is no argument, no beef, no misunderstanding that can justify this level of senseless violence during a night of celebration," he added.
Woodfin also sought to reassure residents, saying the incident would not undermine the community's spirit.
He described the Magic City Classic as an event rooted in historically Black college and university (HBCU) tradition, with family at the heart of its celebrations.
The mayor said the community would stand together as it grieved those affected by the shooting and pledged to pursue justice.
"While this crime is under an active investigation, we will not let up until we achieve swift justice for this senseless violence," he said.
Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett also condemned the shooting, describing it as a "senseless act of violence".
He thanked officers and other law enforcement personnel who responded to the incident, praising their actions as they moved towards the gunfire to assist victims.
Pickett said the Magic City Classic was the city's largest event and placed considerable demands on police resources. He added that other law enforcement agencies had quickly offered support.
The police chief described officers as "true heroes", highlighting how they ran towards the gunfire while checking for injured people and providing medical assistance.
He also expressed gratitude that officers and other responders were able to return home to their families following the incident.
Birmingham Police are asking anyone with video footage of the incident to come forward to help investigators establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing, with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, FBI and other law enforcement agencies assisting, according to local reports.
Authorities have not yet released further details about what led to the shooting or whether those involved knew each other.
