11 killed in head-on collision between taxi and truck on N2 in northern KZN - IOL

Deadly N2 crash: 11 people were killed and eight critically injured after a minibus taxi and truck collided near St Lucia.

11 people lost their lives, and eight were critically injured when a minibus taxi collided head-on with a truck on the N2 near St Lucia in KwaZulu-Natal in the early hours of Sunday.

According to the KZN Department of Transport, the tragic collision took place at around 4am in the Inkosi Mtubatuba Municipality, when a minibus taxi travelling northbound on the N2 collided with a truck travelling south.

The crash killed 11 occupants, while a further eight sustained critical injuries, including burn wounds, after the taxi caught alight.

A further eight patients were transported to hospital with critical injuries.

Siboniso Duma, KZN MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, expressed his deepest condolences to the families of those who died in the accident.

A spokesperson for the MEC said the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) will work with the SAPS to establish the exact cause of the crash.
