11 killed, including a pregnant woman, in mass shooting in KwaMakhutha, south of Durban - IOL

Police officers at the scene of a mass shooting in KwaMakhutha, south of Durban, where at least people were killed.

KZN police have confirmed that they have launched a manhunt for suspects who allegedly shot and killed 11 people, including a pregnant woman, and injured three others during a shooting incident in the Ziko area of KwaMakhutha.

The shooting occurred on Tuesday night, September 22, 2026.

“Information available at this stage suggests that thirteen men and one woman, who is believed to be pregnant, were reportedly having a party inside a house when three men arrived and opened fire on them,” KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said.

Police are investigating the incident.

He said 10 victims, including the woman, died at the scene, while four were taken to hospital, where one of them later succumbed to gunshot injuries.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that some of the victims were on Crime Intelligence' radar in connection with illegal activities which police cannot divulge at the moment to protect investigations which have been launched.”

Netshiunda said that although the motive for the shooting had not yet been confirmed, a feud between rival groupings could not be ruled out.
