An 11-month-old child was killed, and many others were injured in a road accident at Koombara near Koodaranji in Kozhikode district on Saturday afternoon (October 3).

His name was given as Amish Adam, son of Shahinsha of Kalikavu, Malappuram. He was part of a group of around 20 travellers who were returning from a resort in Kakkadampoyil, a popular tourist spot in the district.

The accident happened when a tempo traveller they were travelling in overturned after its driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn. Though the seriously injured child was taken to the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, his life could not be saved. One of the passengers was rescued after breaking open the vehicle.

All the injured people, including children, have been admitted to the medical college hospital and a private medical college hospital in Mukkom. Residents, police, and Fire and Rescue Services personnel coordinated the rescue operations.
