2 accidents in UP: Man dies as bus hits bike; another drowns as truck falls in drain

Two people died in separate road accidents in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district on Saturday night, police said. One man was killed after a roadways bus hit his motorcycle on the Ayodhya-Gonda highway, while another died after a pick-up truck fell into an open drain.

Police said both men were taken to hospital after the accidents, but doctors declared them dead. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and CCTV footage from areas near the accident sites is being examined.

Additional Superintendent of Police (West) Radheshyam Rai said a speeding roadways bus hit a motorcycle from behind near Parsapur village on the Ayodhya-Gonda highway.

Anil Singh, 35, a resident of Tediya Purwa in Imiliya village, was critically injured in the accident. A Dial 112 police team took him to a local Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead.

Rai said the bus driver fled from the spot after abandoning the vehicle. The bus has been impounded, and further legal action will be taken on the basis of a complaint filed by the family.

In the other incident, a pick-up truck went out of control and fell into an open drain near the memorial site of Rajendra Nath Lahiri on Saturday night. The driver, Shivkumar, 35, drowned.

Locals pulled him out and took him to the medical college in a private vehicle, where doctors declared him dead. Shivkumar, a resident of Gonda district, supported his family by driving the vehicle. He is survived by five daughters and two sons.

Police later pulled the pick-up truck out of the drain with the help of a crane.
