2027: Akume, Nasarawa gov lead North-Central mobilisation for Tinubu - Punch Newspapers
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, on Friday led North-Central political leaders and stakeholders in launching a regional movement to support the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027. The North-Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement for Tinubu/Shettima 2027 was launched at an inaugural meeting held at Akume’s office in Abuja, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the movement’s National Coordinator, Sonny Echono. Speaking at the meeting, Akume said the movement would focus on securing widespread support for Tinubu across the region ahead of the presidential election. “The principal objective of this movement is to canvass support and mobilise a massive turnout for Mr President in the 2027 election,” the SGF said. He commended the movement’s National Coordinator for initiating the platform and bringing stakeholders together.See more Punch stories on Google.Add Punch on Google Akume added that the North-Central was targeting the highest regional vote total for Tinubu in the election. The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, described the initiative as timely, saying the region was better positioned politically than it was ahead of the 2023 election. Sule cited the presence of the SGF, the APC National Chairman and other key political appointees from the region as evidence of its strengthened political position. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described the movement as the first of its kind and commended Echono for the initiative. Idris assured the stakeholders that the necessary structures would be provided to support the movement’s activities ahead of the 2027 general election. Echono said the objective was to coordinate political leaders and grassroots stakeholders across the six states of the North-Central region. “The conversation is no longer simply about whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win the North-Central, but about the region positioning itself to deliver the highest number of votes to the President in the 2027 election,” he said. He commended Akume, the North-Central Governors’ Forum and other stakeholders for their support for the Tinubu administration.
