The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appealed to the people of the state to shun acts capable of breaching the existing peace and stability of the state as the 2027 general elections draws nearer. Yusuf made the appeal in his address on the occasion of the 66th National Independence Anniversary held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium on Thursday. He also called on the residents of the state to continue to embrace peace, unity, and mutual respect for the economic growth and development of the state. He said, “As the 2027 General Election is fast approaching, I also appeal to you all to continue to uphold peace, unity, and mutual respect. Let us shun violence and anything that may threaten the peace and stability of our dear state”. The governor reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to strengthen collaboration with all security agencies operating in the State, while providing additional logistics and operational support to security formations, particularly the Military, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, DSS in vulnerable and frontline communities. “We have also sustained grassroots security coordination and increased attention to local government areas including Tsanyawa, Ghari, Gwarzo, Shanono, Bagwai, Rogo, Kiru/Bebeji, Karaye, Tudun Wada/Doguwa and other communities facing security challenges, with the objective of protecting lives, restoring confidence and enabling residents to return to their farms and normal economic activities. He noted that the state government has also taken decisive steps to confront the growing challenge of drug abuse and illicit trafficking adding that the decision to establish the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and issued an Executive Order to strengthen the fight against illicit substances, thuggery and related criminal activities is yielding good results. He said the state government has also provided provided start-up capital, livestock, skills and other forms of support to thousands of beneficiaries across the state as part of effort to support vulnerable families.
