22-year-old Delhi man stabbed 17 times near school over suspected affair
A 22-year-old man has been arrested for stabbing a youth 17 times in east Delhi's Mandawali area after suspecting that he was in a relationship with his married sister-in-law, police said on Friday.
The accused, identified as Keshav Kumar, chased Vansh Dedha, also 22, along with an associate and repeatedly attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon near Gyan Vatika School on Thursday evening. Dedha was taken to a private hospital after a PCR call about the stabbing was received at 7.54 pm, but doctors declared him dead, police said.
During examination, 17 stab injuries were found on Dedha's body. Preliminary investigation has found that Keshav held a grudge against him over the suspected relationship with Keshav's married sister-in-law, police sources said. Police are probing the exact circumstances and motive behind the murder, including the role of other people who may have been involved.
Keshav, a resident of Karawal Nagar, was arrested during the investigation. Police said they have recovered the knife allegedly used in the murder, the clothes allegedly worn by him at the time of the incident, and the motorcycle used by the accused. The second assailant has been identified and efforts are on to arrest him. According to police, the accused had been following Dedha before the attack, which took place near Gyan Vatika School in Mandawali, where he was chased and stabbed.
Dedha's family said he was the sole earning member of the family. His father had died around 11 years ago, and he had left his studies after Class 12 to work with a builder and support his mother, younger brother and three sisters. The family said he was also bearing the cost of his sisters' education and was trying to arrange the marriage of his eldest sister.
A murder case has been registered at Mandawali police station, and officials said CCTV footage is being examined and technical surveillance is being analysed to establish the sequence of events and identify the role of others. - EndsPublished By: India Today Web Desk Published On: Sep 13, 2026 01:15 IST
