3 bike-borne men fire 6 rounds at Punjab lyricist Gulab Sidhu's home
Three unidentified motorcycle-borne men allegedly fired at least six rounds outside the Punjab home of popular Punjabi lyricist and singer Gulab Sidhu in Barnala's Farwahi village between 1.30 am and 2 am on Saturday, with his family inside the house escaping unharmed.
According to Barnala police, the attackers arrived on a motorcycle, took a U-turn outside the house and opened fire before fleeing. Several bullets hit the gate of the house.
Barnala Superintendent of Police Detective Sanjeev Goyal said police were examining CCTV footage and had formed multiple teams to identify and arrest those responsible.
βThree men came on the bike, took a U-turn and fired at least six rounds,β Goyal said.
The police officer said raids were being conducted as part of the investigation and the police were also examining mobile phone dump data from nearby towers to trace the movements of the suspects.GULAB SIDHU WAS NOT HOME
Gulab Sidhu was not at his Punjab home when the firing took place and is currently abroad, according to police.
His parents, wife and children, however, were inside the house at the time of the incident. None of them was injured in the firing.
Police said between seven and eight shots were heard or fired at the house, while the police superintendent put the number of rounds fired at at least six. The bullets struck the gate of the house and did not hit anyone inside.
Police said Gulab Sidhu had received threats in the past, following which two security personnel had been provided to him.
βBased on threats, the singer had been provided two gunmen,β SP Detective Sanjeev Goyal said.
Barnala SSP Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam also said the singer had previously received threats and that two police personnel had been deployed for his security.
Alam said the firing took place at around 1.30 am and involved three unidentified men riding a motorcycle. He confirmed that there was no loss of life in the incident.POLICE FORM TEAMS, CHECK CCTV
The Barnala police have registered a case and formed special teams to investigate the firing.
Investigators are examining CCTV camera footage from the area to establish the route taken by the attackers and identify them. Police teams have also been conducting raids as part of the investigation.
Police are examining mobile phone data from nearby towers as they try to establish the movements of the suspects around the time of the firing.
