October has begun on a warm and largely dry note across northwest India, with parts of Rajasthan seeing some of the highest daytime temperatures in the region.

The heat has left many wondering whether this spell is expected to be long or will a colder spell bring relief.

In that case, relief might be on the way in the coming days, but till then heat is expected to persist.

The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) latest forecast has noted that for a few days, conditions are expected to remain mainly dry, particularly across the western parts of the state. A satellite image higlights the high temperatures across India. (Photo: Windy)

The hottest conditions are likely to persist across western Rajasthan, where clear skies and dry air can allow daytime temperatures to remain high.

Recent observations have shown temperatures in the upper 30s in parts of the state, with regions like Sri Ganganagar and Bikaner among the warmer locations.

Meanwhile, temperatures are also varying considerably from one part of Rajasthan to another. That variation does not come as a surprise as October's heat is not uniform across northwest India.

While western Rajasthan can remain quite hot during the afternoon, temperatures fall considerably after sunset as the air becomes drier. The IMD's latest forecast puts Delhi's maximum temperature at around 34-36°C from October 3-5.

In other words, the capital is expected to remain largely dry during this period.

Similar broadly dry conditions are expected across Haryana, Punjab and western Uttar Pradesh in the immediate term.WILL IT RAIN AGAIN?

But, help is on the way.Itense lightning and stormy rainfall in many parts of North-West Rajasthan due to the Western Disturbance#bikaner #hanumangarh #ganganagar #rain #storm @shetty_athreya @WesternIndiaWX @weathermanMD pic.twitter.com/picBRe45AB— World_Breaking_News03 (@Breaking2003) September 16, 2026

The weather is expected to turn more active from October 6 as a western disturbance moves across the western Himalayas.

This weather system, which typically brings moisture and instability to the region, is expected to trigger rainfall and thunderstorms over parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand before affecting the adjoining plains.

The IMD is forecasting an increase in rainfall activity over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab around October 6–7, with parts of the western Himalayas also likely to see thunderstorms and rain.

As the system moves eastwards, the associated cloud cover, rain and cooler air could bring down daytime temperatures across parts of the plains.

The change is therefore expected to be more noticeable after October 6-7, potentially easing the October warmth that has persisted across northwest India.- Ends
