4 Bangladeshis detained in West Bengal for illegal entry, repatriation begins

Four Bangladeshi nationals have been detained in West Bengal's Purulia district for entering India illegally through the international border, police said. The four men have been placed at a detention centre, while the legal and official process for their repatriation to Bangladesh is underway.HOW POLICE FOUND THE FIRST SUSPECT

The case came to light on September 13 after police received information from a confidential source about a suspicious person seen near Salka Hospital Road around noon. The person was reportedly wearing a sari.

Police questioned the suspect, who identified himself as Mohammad Touhid Mondal, son of Mohammad Tarikul Mondal. He told investigators that he was a resident of Habaspur village under Pangsah Police Station in Bangladesh's Rajbari district.

During questioning, Touhid allegedly told police that he had entered India illegally through the international border in Nadia district on September 1, along with several other Bangladeshi nationals.

Acting on the information provided by Touhid, police searched an apartment in the Purulia Town Police Station area. Three more Bangladeshi nationals were subsequently detained and brought for questioning.

The three men were identified as MD Zahid Emon, Suman Sheikh and Shanto Hossain. According to police, Zahid Emon is from Rajbari district, while Suman Sheikh and Shanto Hossain are residents of Kushtia district in Bangladesh.

Police said all four men have been placed at a detention centre in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure. The authorities have also initiated the necessary official and legal formalities for their return to Bangladesh.
