4 killings, temple visits and a cup of tea: Jaipur police reveal accused's trail

A chilling sequence of events has emerged in the investigation into the murder of a woman and her three daughters in Jaipur’s Kardhani area, with police revealing how accused Rahul Jha allegedly killed his family, served tea to his 85-year-old father the next morning and then fled.

Jha allegedly murdered his wife Geeta Jha and their three daughters by repeatedly striking their heads and faces with a stone. Police suspect the killings took place late at night while the victims were asleep.

When police reached the house after receiving information at around 10 am on Friday, they found Geeta’s body in a room on the first floor. The bodies of the couple’s daughters, 23-year-old Nandini, 18-year-old Radhika and their 14-year-old daughter, were found in two separate rooms on the ground floor.POLICE RECONSTRUCT THE CHILLING MORNING

According to DCP West Prashant Kiran, Jha allegedly killed his wife and three daughters at around 5 am. After the killings, instead of immediately fleeing, he went to the bathroom, took a bath and changed his clothes.

Around 7 am, he collected milk from the milkman, prepared tea at home and sat with his elderly father to drink it. Police said the accused did not harm his father, despite the 85-year-old being present in the house.

Jha then left home at around 8.10 am carrying about Rs 800.

After leaving the house, Jha allegedly took an e-rickshaw to a Hanuman temple near Jhotwara Kanta. Police said he remained there for around one-and-a-half hours.

He then visited a Mataji temple in Ambabari before going to Papad Wale Hanuman Ji temple. Despite visiting several temples, police said his mind remained disturbed.

Jha then boarded a bus for Khatushyamji. By the time he reached there, much of the money he had was spent on travel and food. He began looking for a place where he could stay and hide.

His movements eventually caught the attention of policemen deployed in plain clothes, leading to his arrest.SUICIDE ATTEMPT AFTER THE KILLINGS

Police said Jha also made an attempt to end his life after killing his family. According to the accused’s interrogation, he tried to move in front of a vehicle on the road but backed away at the last moment out of fear.

He subsequently decided to travel to Khatushyamji, police said.‘CRIME PATROL’ AND THE DIGITAL STRIKE

During interrogation, Jha allegedly told police that he frequently watched crime-based television shows such as Crime Patrol.

Investigators suspect that this influenced his efforts to evade detection. Police said he allegedly used what they described as a digital strike in an attempt to avoid being traced and mislead the investigation.

Investigators are now examining his digital activity and other evidence to establish exactly how he allegedly tried to cover his tracks.SUSPICION OVER DAUGHTER’S ALLEGED AFFAIR

Police said Jha had been under stress over his wife and eldest daughter for the past two to three months. He allegedly suspected that his eldest daughter was in a relationship with a young man.

According to investigators, Jha repeatedly asked his wife to counsel their daughter and keep her away from people he considered strangers. However, his wife allegedly supported their daughter, leading to frequent arguments between the couple.

Jha also allegedly suspected that a young man visited his daughter at their home at night.FROM TARGETING TWO TO KILLING THE ENTIRE FAMILY

Police believe the family disputes and Jha’s suspicions eventually pushed him towards planning the killings.

According to the police, Jha initially decided to kill his wife and eldest daughter. However, he allegedly began worrying about what would happen to his two younger daughters if he went to jail after killing the two.

Police said Jha allegedly told investigators that his father received a monthly pension of around Rs 33,000. He reportedly believed that after the rest of the family was gone, his brother would take his father in and look after him.

The accused therefore allegedly left his father unharmed and, in an unsettling final act before fleeing, made tea for him and sat beside him.
