‘Anbu’, a comprehensive eye care initiative launched by the Kerala Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons (KSOS) for differently abled children, will mark the conclusion of its one-year activities on Saturday. Renowned playback singer K.S. Chithra will be the chief guest at the valedictory function scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. on November 7 at the Beach Hotel in Kollam.
Conceptualised by KSOS president Dr. Rajeev Sukumaran as his presidential project, the initiative aimed to ensure complete eye-care coverage for children facing physical, mental, and intellectual challenges. Rather than functioning as a routine programme, the campaign sought to bring light into the lives of special children through compassionate medical intervention.
Under the project, ophthalmologists across all 14 districts of the State conducted 110 specialised eye screening camps, examining a total of 5,295 children. Eligible children were provided with required follow-up treatments, corrective eyeglasses, and surgical interventions including cataract procedures free of cost.
