59-year-old man injured in wild boar attack in Keralam’s Kozhikode

A 59-year-old man was injured after a wild boar attacked him while he was reading the newspaper on the veranda of his house at Thamarassery in Kozhikode district, Keralam, on Wednesday morning.

The victim, M.K. Abdul Khader, a resident of Korangad, came under attack around 6 a.m. He sustained injuries on his leg and was subsequently taken to Thamarassery Taluk Hospital for treatment.

The incident comes amid reports of increasing wild boar activity in residential areas of Kozhikode district. It was a narrow escape for the other family members.

On September 7, a couple was injured after their motorcycle fell when a wild boar suddenly crossed the road near Mukkam. The accident occurred at around 7.30 p.m. on the Thiruvambady-Omassery road near Neeleswaram.

The injured were Pallath Faisal, 37, and his wife Aleefathima, 32, residents of Pampizhanjappara near Mukkam. Faisal sustained injuries to his hands, legs, jaw, forehead and teeth, while Aleefathima suffered injuries to her hands, legs and back. Both had been admitted to a private medical college hospital in Manassery.

The local residents from Thamarassery and Mukkam areas said the local administrators’ attempt to cull the increasing wild boars was progressing at a slow pace. They said the lack of licensed shooters was also found affecting the process.
