A picture of Eskom's future light: Mteto Nyati's chairmanship tenure extended - EWN

Eskom has extended the tenure of its board chairperson, Mteto Nyati, by another three years.

Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said there is no need to fix what isn’t broken, pointing to the board’s efforts to stabilise the power utility.

The extension comes as Eskom enters what the government is calling a new phase, with the focus now shifting towards Eskom 2.0 and the utility’s long-term mandate.

On Friday, Ramokgopa said continuity at board level is important.

“We're happy to say that the Cabinet has taken a decision that Dr Mteto Nyati is best suited to continue on this journey. That we give him a 3-year mandate to continue to deliver on this, working with his team of board members and the competent, reliable and experienced team of technocrats led by the group CEO, Mr Dan Marokane.”

Ramokgopa said Eskom’s failure to deliver affordable and reliable electricity has had a direct impact on South Africa’s economy.
