Those who have not completed the authentication will be able to book refills at the RSP with subsidy after completing the process.

The government has said the process is aimed at ensuring that subsidised LPG reaches eligible households and preventing duplicate or ineligible connections.HOW TO COMPLETE AADHAAR AUTHENTICATION

Consumers who have not completed BAA can use multiple channels.

The authentication can be completed during LPG delivery, at the distributor's showroom or through the respective Oil Marketing Company (OMC) mobile app.

During delivery, the delivery person can complete the process using the OMC mobile application.

Consumers can also visit their LPG distributor and complete the authentication at the showroom.AUTHENTICATION THROUGH MOBILE APPS

Consumers can complete the process themselves through the mobile apps of their respective LPG providers.

Video tutorials on completing self e-KYC are also available on the PMUY portal.WHAT IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO COMPLETE BAA

Consumers who do not wish to complete the authentication can still receive LPG.

However, they will need to register their choice through their OMC's digital channels. These include the consumer web portal, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot, IVRS or other available channels.

Such consumers will receive LPG at the applicable market price without subsidy, in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to local availability with the OMC.HOW MANY CONSUMERS HAVE COMPLETED IT

As of September 19, 2026, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers had completed BAA.

This represents 89.9 per cent of active domestic LPG consumers.

Consumers were initially asked to complete the process by June 30. The deadline was subsequently extended several times, with September 14 being the final extended deadline.GOVERNMENT'S OUTREACH DRIVE

Oil Marketing Companies have been running a nationwide outreach drive since October 2023 to encourage consumers to complete the authentication.

According to the government, more than 12 crore SMS and WhatsApp messages have been sent to consumers.

Distributors and delivery staff have also followed up with consumers who had not completed authentication. Camps have been organised at distributorships, high-footfall locations and rural areas.WHY THE GOVERNMENT IS MAKING THE CHANGE

The government says biometric Aadhaar authentication is intended to link each domestic LPG connection to an authenticated consumer.

According to the government, this is aimed at preventing diversion of subsidised domestic LPG for commercial and industrial use, removing duplicate and ineligible connections, and making subsidy delivery more targeted.

The government has also said the process is not intended to deny LPG to genuine households.WHAT CONSUMERS SHOULD DO

Consumers who have already completed BAA do not need to take any further action.

Those who have not completed it should complete the authentication before October 1 through delivery staff, their distributor's showroom or the relevant OMC mobile app.

Consumers who do not wish to complete BAA can register their choice through their OMC's available digital channels and receive LPG at the applicable market price without subsidy.- EndsPublished By: Chaitanya DhawanPublished On: Sep 20, 2026 10:14 IST
