Aaron Judge injury update: Yankees MVP calls out manager over playoff status - USA Today

Aaron Judge's mildly defiant stance on the health of his right groin prompted New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone to note that the club will "see where he's at" when the team opens its American League wild card series Tuesday, Sept. 29. 

Boone, appearing on Sirius XM Radio Thursday, responded to Judge's comments to ESPN a day earlier that he has "no control" over Boone's assessment that the 6-foot-7 slugger will likely miss the wild-card round after suffering the calf injury Sept. 16. 

"The bottom line is he got ruled out for the regular season as he tries to get going here. He’s doing everything possible he can to be an option," Boone said Thursday. "The reality is we have several days left and we’ll see where we are when that day comes.

"When we start the playoffs, the first round, hopefully we move on – I can’t answer that. Hopefully we move on. His body will tell us that and all I know is Judgey is doing everything he can to put himself in play as soon as possible." 

Judge was diagnosed with a moderate grade right calf strain. The muscle is not torn, which offers up for a return during the playoffs, yet the range of recovery is significantly variable. 

The Yankees will host the best-of-three wild card series in the Bronx, almost certainly against the rival Boston Red Sox.
