Abandoned newborn boy rescued in Ongole

A one-day-old male infant was abandoned in the thorny bushes near Sagar Canal in Samatha Nagar, on the outskirts of Ongole, where he is suspected to have remained whole night after birth before being rescued on Thursday (September 10, 2026). He was taken into protective custody and currently availing treatment.

According to the sources, people walking by heard the baby crying loudly and immediately alerted ‘helpline number 112’ as well as ‘Help’, a local voluntary organisation. Responding promptly, Ongole Taluka Circle Inspector T. Vijay Krishna sent his team to the scene.

The matter was reported to Prakasam District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) P. Dinesh Kumar and District Women and Child Welfare Officer A. Padma Sunanda. Following their instructions, the child was shifted to RIMS Hospital, Ongole, with the assistance of the police.

‘Help’ Project Director B.V. Sagar said, “The baby boy’s condition is critical. He has become exhausted from crying all night and had sustained bleeding wounds on his body due to thrashing in the thorny thicket. However, he is receiving advanced medical care.”
