The two female students who were abducted from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, during the gruesome killing of a branch bank manager, Mr Ossy, last Sunday, have regained their freedom. The University PRO, Orakwe Ezugwu, said the students had been released in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday. According to him, the two students are currently receiving medical care and psychological support at the University Medical Centre. Already, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ikechukwu Dozie, has visited the students and interacted with them. The PRO said the school management had commended the Nigerian Police and other security agencies for their prompt intervention. The statement read, “the Management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, has confirmed the safe release of the two female students who were abducted during the gruesome killing of a branch bank Manager, Mr Ossy, last Sunday. “The management assures students, staff, parents, and the University community that additional security measures are being sustained in collaboration with relevant security agencies. “Members of the University community are urged to remain calm and vigilant, and report any suspicious activity”, the statement read. Recall that an Owerri-based branch manager of Polaris Bank was gunned down by gunmen on Sunday within the school campus when he tried to resist being kidnapped.
