ACSA appoints Siphamandla Mthetwa as new CEO - EWN

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has appointed Siphamandla Mthetwa as its new chief executive officer.   

Mthetwa, a qualified chartered accountant, will take up the position on 1 November.   

He returns to ACSA after about three years away, having previously served as the company’s chief financial officer.   

ACSA said Mthetwa's return came at a very different point for the company.   

Mthetwa first joined ACSA in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when air travel collapsed and the company faced a major liquidity crisis.   

As CFO, he was involved in managing ACSA’s funding and liquidity as the company worked to protect its financial sustainability.   

The board says his prior experience at ACSA, financial expertise and stakeholder management skills will be important as the company moves into its next phase.   

This includes a major airport infrastructure investment programme.   

Mthetwa will take over from Charles Shilowa, who has been serving as acting CEO since July following the end of Mpumi Mpofu’s fixed-term tenure.  

 ACSA said Shilowa provided leadership continuity while the board completed the process of appointing a permanent CEO.
