ActionSA promises to ease cost of living if it takes over CoCT in local polls - EWN

ActionSA is pitching a cheaper and safer Cape Town to voters, promising to ease the cost of living if it takes control of the city in the 4 November local government elections.

The party’s Cape Town mayoral candidate, Derellen James, launched her campaign in the city on Tuesday, outlining plans that include free MyCiTi bus rides for Capetonians on weekdays and a reduction in municipal rates and tariffs.

James said the proposals are aimed at households struggling with rising living costs, with some residents saying repeated rates increases are putting their monthly budgets under growing pressure.

She said that ActionSA would freeze municipal rates for at least a year if elected, while the party audits the city’s charges.

"We hear the mothers and the gogos saying to us, ‘Do we cook outside or do we keep some electricity units at night? I think there have been three adjustments for the last two years and our salaries haven’t increased.’"
