AFCON 2027 qualifiers: Top goalscorers after Matchday 1 - Vanguard News

The opening round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON qualifying campaign produced a number of standout attacking performances, with two players emerging as the early leaders in the race for the tournament’s qualifying scoring charts.

Zimbabwe midfielder Marshall Munetsi and Mali forward Nene Dorgeles both scored twice during Matchday 1 to lead the standings.

Munetsi was instrumental in Zimbabwe’s dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Sierra Leone, scoring in the 72nd and 88th minutes after his side had fallen two goals behind.

Dorgeles also found the net twice as Mali defeated Cape Verde 3-1, scoring in the 39th and 51st minutes.

Several players, meanwhile, scored once, including two Super Eagles players who helped Nigeria defeat Madagascar 2-1 in Uyo.

The Matchday 1 scoring charts are led by Munetsi and Dorgeles with two goals each, while a large group of players sit on one goal. The second round of fixtures will provide the first opportunity for the leading scorers to extend their advantage.
