After drunken fight with friends, Gurugram man rams Thar into cab carrying them

Gurugram Police have arrested the driver accused of repeatedly ramming an SUV into a cab in Sector 89 and have recovered the vehicle used in the incident, officials said on Monday.

The incident took place late at night and, according to police, the accused was drunk when he crashed his Thar into a cab in which his own friends were travelling. The cab driver and the two passengers escaped narrowly, while a video of the incident later surfaced on social media.

Police said the impact was so severe that both front airbags of the cab were deployed and the front portion of the vehicle was completely damaged. According to the police, on September 18, a man approached the team at Kherki Daula police station and said he works as a cab driver. He told police that near Sati Chowk, the driver of the SUV suddenly hit his vehicle while driving recklessly. A case was then registered on his complaint.

The accused, identified as Manjeet Rawat, 25, a resident of Bharthal village in Delhi, was arrested from Gurugram on September 19. During interrogation, police found that he was travelling to Sohna with friends from his village and that they had consumed alcohol during the journey.

Police said an argument later broke out between Rawat and his companions over who would drive the vehicle, and this led to a physical fight. After this, when his friends booked a cab to leave, Rawat allegedly deliberately rammed his Thar into the cab.

"The police team has recovered the Thar vehicle used in the incident. Further legal proceedings are being carried out by the police team as per the law. Investigation in the case is underway", a senior police officer said.
