Agra elderly couple says son, daughter-in-law threw them out of house; police reacts
A 70-year-old man from Agra broke down while alleging that his son and daughter-in-law threw him and his wife out of the house they had spent Rs 75 lakh building.
In a video shared on Facebook, Ram Bilas Katara’s wife could be seen crying profusely as he appealed for help, claiming that no one had listened to them for around five years.
The couple claimed that their son and daughter-in-law had forced them out of their home in January 2022, after which they had been living in a rented house.
“January 2022 mein humaare bahu beta ne humko aise ghar se nikaala jisme humne Rs 75 lakh kharch kiya hai. Kiraaye ke makaan mein kaise humlog guzaara karein? Itni kadi mehnat karke makaan banwaaya. Hamaare besharam bahu beta ne humko ghar se nikaal diya. 5 baras ho gaye, humaara koi sunne waala nahi (In January 2022, our son and daughter-in-law threw us out of the house on which we had spent Rs 75 lakh. How are we supposed to manage in a rented house? We worked so hard to build that home. Our shameless son and daughter-in-law threw us out of our house. It has been five years, and there is no one to listen to us,” he said.
Katara also alleged that he had repeatedly approached the authorities and shared several videos seeking help, but claimed that nobody listened to him. He appealed to the public to support him and seek punishment for his son and daughter-in-law, saying that this would finally give him some peace.
He also described his son as “Aurangzeb se bhi bura (worse than Aurangzeb).”
Their now-viral video was shared on Facebook with the caption, “70-year-old senior citizen parents are unhappy with their child.”
However, Agra Police said the matter was related to a dispute over ownership and partition of a family property and was already under consideration by a court.
Responding to the now-viral video on its official X account, the Agra Police Commissionerate said an investigation by Malpura police station found that the man had complained against his elder son and daughter-in-law over his share in the house. The house was registered in the daughter-in-law’s name and that the partition case was currently pending before the court.
The Agra Police also said that the case was being monitored and that further investigation and necessary action would be taken according to the rules.- Ends
