AHINDA protest against removal of Siddaramaiah statue

AHINDA leaders held a protest in Vijayapura on Sunday, against the removal of a statue of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in Kalaburagi recently.

They marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum seeking reinstallation of the statue on the State highway near the High Court Bench, from where it was removed.

Abdul Hameed Mushrif said that the reason given by officials that it was installed without due permission was trivial. “A permit could have been given after the installation. Action should be taken against officers who removed it,” he said.

M.G. Yankanchi demanded that the statue be installed at the same place.

Somnath Kallimani warned of a protest march from Vijayapura to Kalaburagi if the statue was not reinstalled.

City corporation member Asfaq Manguli, leaders including Bharati Hosmani, Mallu Bidri, district guarantee committee chairman Santosh Honmode, advocate S.S. Khadri, Beerappa Jumnal, I.S. Diwanji and others were present.
