AIIEA backs bank unions strike on September 11

The All India Insurance Employees’ Association (AIIEA) has extended its solidarity to the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and the entire banking fraternity in the one-day strike call on September 11 (Friday).

The strike is an expression of the growing discontent among bank employees and officers over the continued non-resolution of important issues, including the demand for a five-day banking and opposition to the newly introduced discriminatory PLI scheme, the AIIEA general secretary Shreekant Mishra said in a statement on Thursday.

The struggle reflects the strong resistance of the banking employees and officers to unilateralism, divisive measures and attempts to weaken the established system of industry-level collective bargaining in the banking sector, he said.

Mr Mishra said the insurance employees’ movement under the AIIEA too has been raising its voice against unilateral decision-making, erosion of established practices and the weakening of meaningful dialogue and collective bargaining. “We are of the firm opinion that constructive dialogue, collective bargaining and respect for trade union rights are essential for healthy industrial relations,” he said.
