Tamil superstars Ajith Kumar and Vijay greeted fans and shared a warm embrace at Silverstone in Northampton, UK, on Saturday (September 12, 2026). Vijay, the Tamil Nadu chief minister, attended to flag off the Michelin Le Mans Cup race, in which Ajith participated.
In a thrilling moment for Tamil cinema fans, Ajith Kumar and Vijay — two of the biggest stars of the industry — met at Silverstone in Northampton, UK, on Saturday (September 12, 2026) evening. Despite their 34-year-long journey as colleagues in the film field, the two superstars hadn’t shared a public stage in a long time.
Vijay met Ajith at the Michelin Le Mans Cup at the Silverstone circuit. Ajith, who recently reignited his passion for racing, was set to participate in the race. Vijay, on his international trip as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, was at the venue to flag off the race.
Ajith and Vijay greeted their excited fans before sharing a warm embrace. As they stepped out of the car to a sea of paparazzi, chants of “Thala” and “Thalapathy”—the stars’ popular monikers — echoed through the venue. Sporting a muted, brownish jacket, Vijay created a light-hearted moment by playfully jogging towards Ajith, who was in racing suit, for a hug.
Social media has been buzzing with anticipation ever since the meeting between the two stars was confirmed. For over two decades, Ajith and Vijay have been regarded as the two biggest stars and fiercest rivals in Tamil cinema. With their fan bases constantly competing for supremacy, even a rare moment of the two sharing the same frame was enough to send the internet into a frenzy.
Even before the reunion, Ajith heightened the euphoria by saying he was glad to see Vijay taking steps to encourage the development of motorsports in India. “Thanks to the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr C Joseph Vijay, for taking his time off and visiting us at Silverstone. We have been colleagues in the film industry for 34 years, and I am happy for him that he’s now the Chief Minister-elect.”
Ajith, who entered the race after finishing eighth in the qualification round, asked fans to avoid creating chaos at the venue. He thanked the fans for the support but cautioned them to stay disciplined. Several fans from across India witnessed the qualification round and cheered for Ajith, even as the commentator described the actor as the “Silver Head Tom Cruise”. The grandstands at the circuit also had fans waving posters of Vijay, as they awaited the crucial moment.
