Akka Cafe inaugurated at taluk office in Mysuru

A newly constructed Akka Cafe, located on the premises of Taluk Office in Nazarbad in Mysuru, was inaugurated by Minister In-charge of Mysuru district Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Monday.

Promoted by the State Government, Akka Cafes seek to encourage women’s entrepreneurship through self-help groups (SHGs).

This is the second Akka Cafe established in Mysuru after the first one was inaugurated in Zilla Panchayat premises by former Minister H.C. Mahadevappa in March this year.

‘Akka Cafe’ is an initiative announced by former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the State Budget for 2025–26. 

The cafe building on the Taluk Office premises in Nazarbad was constructed at a cost of ₹18.20 lakh using Taluk Panchayat surcharge funds and under the Sanjeevini scheme, according to a press statement.

The initiative aims to enable women members of self-help groups to engage in entrepreneurship and become economically self-reliant, thereby improving their families’ financial condition while providing the public with quality, healthy, and affordable food.

The Akka Cafe will serve breakfast items such as uppittu, kesari bath, rice bath, chitranna, idli, and dosa. Lunch options will include ragi mudde, rice, sambar, and palya, alongside tea and coffee.

Overall, the scheme’s main objective is to help women build self-reliant livelihoods. It is expected to contribute to women’s empowerment while strengthening self-help groups financially, the press statement added.

Lakshmikanth Reddy, Mysuru Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer S. Yukesh Kumar, Deputy Secretaries Savitha and Bheemappa Lali, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer C. Krishna, and Assistant Director K. Rukmangada, among others, were present.
