Alex Eala to face Tatiana Prozorova in Singapore Tennis Open Round of 16 - GMA Network

Alexandra “Alex” Eala will finally kick off her Asian Swing campaign as she takes on Tatiana Prozorova of Russia in the Singapore Open Round of 16.

Eala earned a first-round bye after being awarded the No. 3 seed in the WTA 500 tournament.

The 22-year-old Prozorova, currently ranked No. 180 by the WTA, secured the rights to face the world No. 18 Eala after surviving Sofia Costoulas of Belgium, 5-7, 7-6(2), 6-2, in the Round of 32 on Tuesday.

Eala and Prozorova will battle in the Round of 16 with a quarterfinal berth at stake, where the winner will face either Chinese bet Xinyu Wang or Joanna Garland of Chinese Taipei.

Singapore Open is Eala's final WTA event before she plunges into the Asian Games, where the Filipina star is looking to bag her maiden gold medal after a bronze outing in the previous edition.

Eala opted to play in the Asian Games and skip the China Open.

The Filipina ace is also returning to action after her US Open campaign, where she reached the Round of 16.
