Β The Kozhikode Principal Sessions Court has granted bail to Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] district secretariat member M. Girish and Elathur branch committee member C.P. Jaleel in a case registered in connection with a clash reported on the day of the Chevayur Cooperative Bank election.
Mr. Girish and Mr. Jaleel were arrested last month in connection with the case, which included charges related to an alleged attempt to cause death. The case originated from a complaint filed by a Congress leader.
The CPI(M) had alleged that the case against its members was false and politically motivated. The party leaders who accorded a reception to the two near the Kozhikode jail claimed that an earlier police inquiry had found no factual basis for allegations arising from an incident that occurred around two-and-a-half years ago.
Meanwhile, the Congress leaders had alleged that several of their workers were attacked during the clash. They had also alleged that there was inordinate delay in arresting the suspects.
