The Oyo State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has appealed for the unconditional release of prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from the state abducted in Imo State while travelling to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Abia State.

Alli, in a statement, described the incident as disturbing, saying the victims were young graduates travelling to undertake their national service and posed no threat to anyone. He appealed to those holding the prospective corps members to release them unconditionally, while expressing solidarity with their families.

β€œI appeal to those holding these young Nigerians to release them unconditionally. They are innocent graduates, sons and daughters of families who are now living in unbearable pain, fear and anxiety,” he said.

Alli noted that the NYSC scheme was established to promote national unity and integration, stressing that prospective corps members should not become victims while answering the call to serve their country.

He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to locate and rescue the abducted graduates safely. The APC candidate also called for stronger security measures along major inter-state routes, especially those frequently used by prospective corps members and other travellers, to prevent similar incidents. He said Nigerians should be able to travel for education, employment and national service without fear for their lives.

β€œThose responsible must recognise the sanctity of human life and spare these young Nigerians. Their families are waiting for them to return home safely,” Alli added.

Alli prayed for the safe return of the abducted prospective corps members and urged their families to remain calm while security agencies work to secure their release.
