America has a new favorite sport: Demolition ‘King of the Hill’ and it’s taking over the internet

A bonkers new twist on the demolition derby, dubbed the “King of the Hill” race, has taken the Internet by storm.

Viral footage shows reinforced demolition derby-style cars speeding around a race track, chasing after a moving trailer. Racers compete to see who can catch the trailer, drive onto it and successfully park on top — all while the other racers try to knock them off their path.

The unhinged race seemingly originated at Hudson Speedway in Hudson, New Hampshire, just northeast of Nashua, over Labor Day weekend.

“One of the most anticipated additions to this year’s Labor Day program was the King of the Hill Trailer Race, and it didn’t disappoint,” Hudson Speedway wrote in a press release last week.

Footage of the inaugural race shows cars speeding and colliding as they vied for the spot on top of the trailer. Multiple cars can be seen making it to the top of the trailer before getting thrown off the side and into the path of the competing racers.

Competitors were left to battle to the finish while navigating the moving trailer in a “unique event” that “provided plenty of laughs, close calls and chaos for the crowd” the speedway said.

“When it was all over, John McInnis and the No. 609 stood alone as the inaugural Labor Day King of the Hill, earning the victory in one of the wildest events of the afternoon.”

Hudson Speedway did not respond to The Independent’s request for comment.

Social media users were immediately captivated by the crazy, yet uniquely American sports innovation.

“This is insane…and I can’t stop watching it…” sports journalist David Aldridge commented on X.

ESPN writer Dan Wetzel agreed, writing, “I would watch this all day.”

“This may be the greatest sport ever created,” college football reporter Andy Staples added.

Others were quick to poke fun at the absurdity of it all.

“For everyone that says America has no culture…” one person commented.

“The European mind can’t comprehend this,” another X user joked.

It was not immediately clear who came up with the concept, when it originated and if it will be a repeat event for Hudson Speedway.
