American, 62, nabbed for P17 million kush at NAIA
MANILA, Philippines — A 62-year-old American was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 for attempting to smuggle into the country 17.46 kilos of marijuana kush on Thursday.
The Bureau of Customs said the passenger arrived from Bangkok, Thailand carrying two pieces of luggage that contained food packages. When subjected to X-ray scanning, the BOC officers found suspicious images that led to a K9 inspection.
According to the BOC, a drug-sniffing dog gave a positive indication for presence of prohibited drugs, which led the Customs officers and agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency to conduct a manual inspection.
The officers found the marijuana kush, valued at P17.4 million, hidden inside 15 vacuum-sealed packages in the passenger’s luggage.
Personnel of the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group, through the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group, arrested the foreigner for illegal importation of prohibited drugs.
The BOC said that a total of 24.8 kilos of suspected marijuana kush, with an estimated value of P24.79 million, were seized across two separate operations in a span of only four days. – With Rudy Santos
