Analysts: Jokowi Deploys Strategies to Boost PSI's Electability

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Political observer from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Adi Prayitno, believes that the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has begun employing strategies to boost the electability of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).

One of his approaches includes participating in grassroots activities and attending events organized by the party symbolized by the elephant.

"One by one, Jokowi is deploying his ultimate strategies to enhance the electability of PSI. It appears that Jokowi has realized that PSI has not gained momentum, even though he has been involved in their activities without holding an official party membership card," Adi stated during a conversation with Kompas.com on Sunday (27/9/2026).

He assesses that the Jokowi effect could boost PSI's electability, as the party consistently remains below the parliamentary threshold in various survey results.

"It seems Jokowi is confident that officially joining PSI will elevate the party's electability," Adi added.

If Jokowi’s announcement of holding a PSI membership card does not yield results, Adi suggests that the former politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has one more strategy left.

This strategy involves appointing Jokowi as the Chairperson of PSI to further enhance the party's electability.

"Jokowi’s volunteers and supporters seem to believe that PSI will succeed if Jokowi becomes the party's chairperson," Adi remarked.

Previously, Jokowi announced that he had officially become a member of PSI. He stated that he has been part of the PSI family for nearly a year.

"I have been part of the large family of PSI since October 14, 2025. It has been a year already. Many do not believe it; now I will show my membership card," Jokowi told PSI cadres during a Coordination Meeting of the Bandung City DPD at Grand Pasundan, Jalan Peta, on Saturday (26/9/2026).

Jokowi explained that the reason he displayed his membership card was to confirm his status as a member of the party symbolized by the elephant.

In addition to showing his card, Jokowi also read out his full name and membership number as stated on the card.

He hopes that there will be no more doubts regarding his status as part of the elephant-symbolized party.

"So it’s all clear now. Let's not have anyone doubting that I have become part of the large PSI family," Jokowi concluded.
