Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana on Thursday directed the officials to expedite restoration works and bring life back to normal in cyclone-affected areas across Andhra Pradesh.
During a teleconference with Municipal Administration Department Commissioner and Director P. Sampath Kumar, Public Health Engineering-in-Chief Prabhakar and Municipal Commissioners, the Minister reviewed the damage caused by Cyclone Arnab and the progress of relief and restoration measures.
Officials informed the Minister that 85 locations in 10 municipalities across eight districts had been affected by the cyclone. Normalcy had been restored in 71 locations across seven municipalities so far, they said.
The officials said that fallen trees and electric poles had been cleared. In areas where power supply remained disrupted, drinking water was being supplied using generators to ensure that residents did not face shortages.
Mr. Narayana instructed the Municipal Commissioners to prioritise sanitation and maintain cleanliness in affected localities to prevent public health problems. He directed officials to ensure that streetlights were fully functional by Thursday evening.
The Minister stressed the need for coordinated efforts among departments to complete the restoration works swiftly.
