Angela Ken dreams of writing a song for Jose Mari Chan | GMA Entertainment - GMA Network

Singer-songwriter Angela Rojas, more popularly known online as Angela Ken, who first caught the attention of netizens on Tiktok, dreams of collaborating with the 'King of Philippine Christmas Carols' Jose Mari Chan, someday.

Angela, who released the original song “Ako Naman Muna,” spoke exclusively with GMANetwork.com on Tuesday night about her desire to compose a song for the OPM legend.

If given the chance, the multi-talented performer would want to create a song with a “Christmas lights” theme for Jose Mari Chan.

She told GMANetwork.com, “When you hear his voice, when you hear his songs, you will really know that it's the season to be jolly.

“So, I think if mabibigyan ako ng pagkakataon magsulat para sa kaniya na siya 'yung kakanta, maybe, aside from a Christmas song more on how important it is to know that you are one of the stars.”

Delving further into her inspiration for composing an original song for Jose Mari, Angela said, “You are one of the Christmas lights that lights up every single day. Not just because it's Christmas but because we are living in this beautiful world. Parang, if I'm gonna write a song for him, it's gonna be something like that.

“For us to see na different Christmas lights but when we light as one, we are so shiny. We can give a beautiful glow in this world.”

With so many talented singers in the country vying for their big break, Angela feels that her songwriting skills give her an edge.

According to her, “Para sa akin po, malaking ambag po sa akin ng songwriting. Aside from me loving singing, I mean, a lot of people can sing—all of us, majority of Filipinos, can really sing good. Pero, kahit papaano, bilang 'yung nakakasulat din for themselves, for them to sing their original songs.

“And it is such an ease as well na I was able to not just sing songs because they are given to me. But it is also an experience na I get to translate kung paano ko rin siya gusto talagang marinig ng mga tao.”

Angela Ken was a special guest at the launch of SM Supermalls' “12 Weeks of Iconic Christmas” event, held on Tuesday night, September 15, at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
