TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian sport climber Antasyafi Robby Al Hilmi clinched the gold medal in the men's speed category at the World Climbing Series Guiyang 2026, held at the Guizhou Caihu International Climbing Center in Guiyang, China, on Friday, September 11, 2026.

In the gold medal round, Robby emerged as the fastest climber, outpacing Chinese athletes Ling Yongzhi and Chu Shouhong, as well as Japan's Ryo Omasa. He secured gold with a winning time of 4.65 seconds, followed by Ling Yongzhi (4.75 seconds) taking silver and Chu Shouhong (4.80 seconds) claiming bronze.

This gold medal marks Robby's highest achievement in the 2026 World Climbing Series, following silver medal finishes in the Madrid and Chamonix editions. The 19-year-old athlete began the Guiyang event in the qualification round, clocking 4.831 seconds to advance to the Round of 16.

In the Round of 16, Robby was the fastest climber with a time of 5.19 seconds, defeating Reza Alipour Shenazandifard of Iran, as well as Luca Robbiati and Francesco Ponzinibio of Italy. Moving into the quarterfinals, Robby again posted the fastest time—4.84 seconds—ahead of Alipour, Matteo Zurloni of Italy, and Qihang Xu of China.

Robby once more clocked the fastest time in the semifinals (4.82 seconds), beating Omasa, Ziyu Zhou of China, and Alipour, thereby advancing to the final and ultimately winning the gold medal.

Following his victory, the 19-year-old athlete dedicated the gold medal to his mother. "Mom, I finally got the gold!" Robby said, as quoted in a press release received in Jakarta on Friday.

Robby expressed his delight and surprise at winning his first gold medal after securing silver in Madrid and Chamonix. "I am happy because this is my first gold in the World Climbing Series. This result is thanks to the support of everyone and the training I did with fellow athletes in Indonesia," he explained.

He claimed that he did not expect to break his personal best time, crediting his three previous losses in the World Climbing Series as the driving force that motivated him to improve and become faster. Despite winning gold, Robby acknowledged he still has "homework" to do, feeling there are many aspects, particularly climbing technique, that need further improvement.

Head coach Galar Pandu Asmoro expressed pride in Robby's achievement and expressed hope that his success in the individual speed event would be followed by success in the speed relay event. "We hope to secure more medals in the relay event," Galar said.

Thanks to this victory, Robby firmly holds the number one spot in the 2026 men's individual speed world rankings with a score of 2,864.

Meanwhile, another Indonesian climber, Raharjati Nursamsa, was eliminated in the semifinals. In the women's event, Rajiah Sallsabillah was eliminated in the semifinals, while Adi Asih and Berthdigna Devi Surya were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
