At 10:00 a.m. on 5 Nov 2026 GMT+7, Anutin Chanvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, presided over the opening of a study session at the National Defence Studies Institute. In his opening remarks themed "The Role of Government, Private Sector, and Politics in Maintaining National Security," he thanked the institute for the honor, noting he is an alumnus who has applied the knowledge gained in his work, such as building valuable network connections. He expressed that the relationships and friendships formed here are precious and hopes all attendees experience and carry these fond memories after graduation. He affirmed that this year is especially valuable for those in this program, a year of dedication, early rising, and balancing official duties and business. He emphasized that if anyone faces difficulties, there are over 300 colleagues ready to help resolve issues lawfully and ethically.

Anutin further stated that his lecture topic was the role of government, private sector, and politics in preserving national security. He explained that while national security once focused mainly on military matters, today it spans economy, society, food, public health, environment, technology, and most recently energy. Every issue impacts national security, and Thailand must conduct foreign affairs carefully to avoid disadvantages, maintain proper standing, honor, trust, and importance on the global stage. Everyone engaged in civil service—political officials, permanent officials, and security forces—is committed to policies covering all security dimensions, achieving reliable stability. This institute’s current and past cohorts include professionals linked to national economic security from the Bank of Thailand, Ministry of Finance, and private sector; social security networks from civil society and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.

Regarding energy, many stakeholders from both government and private sectors are involved. On food security, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is also a member of this cohort. Anutin noted that few have studied at this institute; most are deputy directors-general, while the permanent secretary advanced quickly and joined as permanent secretary before the usual time, allowing network building—critical given food’s vital importance.

The Prime Minister added that recent news showed Europe raising freezer temperatures across its food networks, causing widespread spoilage. He said reading this was heartbreaking and cruel, but also saw it as an opportunity for Thailand. Thailand’s pride, he said, is being a major global food producer. Thailand has a clear policy to demonstrate food security, compelling the world to recognize its importance. Others sell oil, which many value, but oil is not consumable for sustenance. Without food, life cannot be sustained.

Therefore, Thailand must strengthen itself as a nation fully engaged in production, processing, and industrial-scale operations in rice, fruit, vegetables, and livestock. Thailand has all these elements. This is the key message he wished to leave with the institute’s students.
