APCC to protest today in Vijayawada over ‘irregularities’ in electoral rolls

The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) will hold a protest near Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada on Monday at 10.30 a.m., opposing what the party described as irregularities in electoral rolls across the country.

APCC president Y.S. Sharmila called for protest in support of nationwide demonstrations led by the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and as directed by the the All India Congress Committee (AICC),.

APCC vice-president and Administration In-charge Kolanukonda Shivaji on Sunday said the party had raised concerns over the alleged deletion of around 13 crore voters from electoral rolls and the issuance of notices to an estimated 3-4 crore voters over inadequate identity documentation.

Mr. Shivaji said the protesters would demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and seek registration of criminal cases against him and his arrest.
