The Youth Leader of the Allied Peoples Movement in Lagos State, Zainab Aderinsola, has described the party’s governorship candidate, Laja Adeoye, as a “frontline alternative” for the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Aderinsola, in a statement on Monday, said Lagos required an impactful leader capable of addressing the challenges confronting residents, despite the state’s growing revenue. She identified failing roads, traffic congestion, unaffordable housing, unreliable electricity and flooding as some of the major challenges facing Lagos residents. According to her, Adeoye’s private-sector experience and policy blueprint, tagged _“Atunto Eko 1.0 – Re-engineering Lagos for Inclusive Prosperity,”_ provide a comprehensive framework for addressing the needs of residents. “Lagos does not need another slogan about world-class status, but practical solutions to shorter commutes, cheaper power, affordable housing and functional clinics,” Aderinsola said. She said the blueprint covers affordable housing, healthcare, education, job creation, electricity, transportation, flood control and security across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas. Aderinsola said Adeoye, who holds a Diploma in Computer Science, a degree in Mathematics from the University of Lagos and a Master’s degree in Property Development, had pledged to create about 100,000 direct jobs within two years and 1.5 million jobs within four years if elected. She said the proposed jobs would be generated through industrial clusters, technology hubs in Yaba and Ogba, agro-processing centres in Badagry and Epe, as well as skills academies across the three senatorial districts.See more Punch stories on Google.Add Punch on Google According to her, the candidate’s Eko Skill Code initiative would train young people in areas including solar installation, plumbing, coding and the creative industries to improve their employability and self-reliance. On electricity, Aderinsola said Adeoye planned to generate at least 2,000 megawatts through Independent Power Projects across the five divisions of Lagos—Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island and Epe. She said the plan would also include the establishment of a state electricity grid to distribute power to homes, markets and industries, thereby reducing dependence on diesel-powered generators. She said the houses would be supported by single-digit mortgages and targeted at teachers, civil servants, health workers, artisans, market men and women. “The housing plan will also be linked to commercial facilities and markets to support livelihoods,” she said. In the healthcare sector, Aderinsola said the APM candidate had pledged to build, rehabilitate and equip more than 300 Primary Healthcare Centres within 18 months. She said the move was aimed at bringing quality healthcare closer to residents at the grassroots. Aderinsola also listed flood control through improved drainage, cleaner waste management, expansion of the Bus Rapid Transit system, integrated water transportation and digital traffic management among the proposed policies. She said digital traffic management would help reduce travel time for commuters across the state. On governance, the APM youth leader said Adeoye planned to scrap the Governance Advisory Council and replace it with a more inclusive advisory body comprising traditional rulers, religious leaders, youths and women. She added that the candidate also proposed converting the 37 Local Council Development Areas into full-fledged Local Government Areas to bring government closer to the people. Aderinsola said Adeoye’s vision would protect Yoruba cultural heritage while promoting inclusiveness for all residents lawfully living and working in Lagos. She expressed confidence that Lagos voters would support the APM candidate in the 2027 governorship election, describing him as a credible alternative capable of delivering practical solutions to the state’s challenges.
