Apple rolling out iOS 27 today: Check new features, compatible iPhones and how to download

Apple is rolling out iOS 27 to compatible iPhones in India and other markets today, September 14. The new generation of iPhone software was first previewed at WWDC 2026 and has already gone through several developer and public beta releases following its introduction. At last week’s iPhone launch event, Apple said the iPhone 18 Pro models and iPhone Duo would be the first devices to ship with the new operating system out of the box.

The iOS 27 update brings a lot of exciting upgrades to enhance the iPhone experience, including a redesigned Siri experience powered by Apple’s Foundation Models and Google’s Gemini, along with changes to the Liquid Glass interface, upgrades to Visual Intelligence and a wider set of parental controls. Apple has not announced an exact release time, but based on previous major iOS releases and regional Apple pages, the update is expected to begin rolling out at around 10am Pacific Time, which is about 10.30pm IST.iOS 27 India launch

iOS 27 will arrive as an over-the-air update. In India, Apple’s website lists September 14 as the launch date, while some other markets in Asia, including Singapore and Hong Kong, show September 15 because of time zone differences. Users may not see the update immediately after the rollout begins, as availability can vary slightly by device and region. Apple users may also face slower download speeds and delays during the initial rollout because of high demand on the company’s servers.

Before installing the update, make sure you back up important data and that your iPhone has enough battery charge or is connected to a charger.

Apple says iOS 27 is compatible with the iPhone 11 series and newer models, as well as the second- and third-generation iPhone SE. That includes the iPhone 18 series, iPhone Duo, iPhone 17 series, iPhone 16 series, iPhone 15 series, iPhone 14 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 11 series, iPhone SE (2022) and iPhone SE (2020). New Siri: One of the main additions in iOS 27 is the new Siri experience. Apple has introduced a dedicated Siri app that lets users start conversations and return to earlier interactions. The assistant can combine Apple’s Foundation Models with Google’s Gemini models, and Apple says it can use personal context to pull information from apps and carry out actions across supported apps. Siri AI is also rolling out in beta and will initially be available on English-only devices. Apple says support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish will follow in October.

Visual Intelligence: Apple is also expanding Visual Intelligence in iOS 27. Users can access it from the Camera app to analyse objects and scenes, ask Siri questions about what they are seeing and perform related actions. The feature can also analyse content shown on the screen.

Customisation for Liquid Glass interface: Alongside that, the Liquid Glass interface, first introduced with iOS 26, is getting more customisation. Users can adjust the intensity of transparent interface elements through a new opacity or transparency slider, choosing a clearer look or a more frosted one. Apple is also making subtle changes to app icons.

More user-focused upgrades: Other changes in iOS 27 include more Apple Intelligence features in Photos, Safari, Wallet and Shortcuts. Apple is adding extra-large widgets, the option to make the time on the lock screen much smaller, and separate volume controls for ringtones, alarms, timers, alerts and system sounds.

The update also includes a redesigned Phone app, contextual suggestions in Messages and Mail, and a Safari feature that can organise tabs by topics.

More parental controls: Apple has also expanded parental controls in iOS 27. The changes include Ask to Buy, Ask to Browse, contact approvals, Time Allowances and schedules.MacOS Golden Gate, iPadOS 27 also coming
