Arepo blackout worsens as TCN repairs insulator - Vanguard News

ABEOKUTA — Electricity supply has been disrupted in Arepo, Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, following a fault traced to a shattered insulator at the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, end of the network.

The development has left residents of the fast-growing community awaiting the completion of repairs by TCN before Ikeja Electric, IE, can restore supply.

The Secretary of the Arepo Area Community Development Council, AACDC, Electricity Committee, Akinlolu Akinpelumi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

According to him, the fault, reportedly caused by a shattered insulator, was being attended to by the TCN maintenance crew.

“The fault, reportedly caused by a shattered insulator, is currently being attended to by the TCN Maintenance Crew,” Akinpelumi said.

He said repair work was already in progress, expressing hope that the engineers would resolve the fault promptly to enable IE to restore electricity to the community.

“We have been informed that repair work is ongoing. We can only hope that the TCN engineers will be able to resolve the fault in good time so that IE can restore power to our community,” he said.

Akinpelumi assured residents that the electricity committee would continue to monitor the situation and engage the relevant authorities until supply was restored.

“Please be assured that we will continue to monitor the situation and follow up until supply is restored. As soon as we receive any further update, we will not hesitate to communicate it,” he added.

The latest outage comes amid longstanding complaints by residents over recurring power interruptions and prolonged blackouts in the community.

Residents have previously raised concerns over what they described as inadequate electricity supply, saying repeated outages had disrupted businesses and household activities.

In an earlier report, some residents reportedly threatened legal action over a prolonged period of power outages, claiming that the community received barely two hours of electricity daily despite its upgrade to Band B under the service-based tariff regime.

Community leaders and residents have also engaged IE over the persistent supply challenges, while the AACDC Electricity Committee has continued to liaise with the distribution and transmission companies over recurring faults.

Residents are now awaiting the completion of the TCN repairs and subsequent restoration of electricity supply by IE.
