Under the brightest lights of his young career, Albert Ian Delos Santos showed he belonged.
The 20-year-old Delos Santos took home the bronze medal in the 2026 Asian Games men's 70kg weightlifting division on Saturday at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Center in Japan.
Delos Santos, the youngest of the nine-man field, lifted a total of 324kg built on 141kg in snatch and 183kg in clean and jerk to finish third in his maiden Asian Games appearance.
His total output allowed him to set a new junior world and junior Asian record.
It was 10th medal for the Philippines, which has two golds, two silvers and now, six bronzes.
Delos Santos endured a shaky start in the snatch, successfully lifting 138kg and 141kg before failing on his final attempt at 143kg.
That left him in fourth place heading into the clean and jerk, trailing lifters from Japan, North Korea, and Uzbekistan.
But the rising weightlifter came alive in clean and jerk, lifting all three attempts at 178kg, 181kg, and 183kg, to secure the bronze medal for the Philippines, overtaking Uzbekistan's Adkhamjon Ergashev, who only lifted 176kg in clean and jerk.
North Koreaβs Ri Won Ju claimed the gold medal with a 349kg total, setting new world, Asian, and Asian Games records in the process while Japanese bet Masanori Miyamoto seized the silver with a total lift of 342kg.
