Aspirants urge HRD Minister Lokesh to consider increasing constable, SI posts in police recruitment

Constable and SI aspirants submitting a memorandum to HRD Minister Nara Lokesh in Kakinada on Sunday.

HRD Minister Nara Lokesh on Sunday promised to explore the possibility to increase the total number of constable and sub-inspector posts in the police recruitment-2026.

On September 16, the State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB) had issued notification to fill 1,156 Constable posts in various wings, including Prisons and Correctional Services. The board had also issued a notification to fill 60 posts of Sub-Inspector the same day.

On Sunday, several aspirants met Mr. Lokesh in Kakinada and shared their expectations and struggles to crack the posts in the Police Department. The aspirants also submitted a memorandum to Mr. Lokesh, seeking an increase in the number of posts in the 2026 police recruitment.

In response, Mr. Lokesh said, “We will review the appeal for increase in the number of posts in the ongoing Constable and SI recruitment, and explore the possibility to do so. However, the recruitment of various jobs will be an annual affair.”

“We have realised the struggles of the aspirants of various government jobs and their long wait for years,” said Mr. Lokesh.
