The death toll in the explosion at an Oil India Limited (OIL) facility in eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh rose to two after one of six persons injured in Friday’s (November 6, 2026) fire died at a private hospital on Saturday (November 7, 2026) morning.

Reportedly working for a Mumbai-based private agency engaged by the oil exploration major, 40-year-old Tapas Gogoi died at around 3 a.m., taking the death toll in the fire incident to two.

The other person, identified as Raju Dutta, died from the impact of the explosion on Friday (November 6, 2026) morning.

The fire broke out at around 9.05 a.m. at the indirect bath heater in OIL’s intermediate tank farm at Tengakhat. The bath heater was isolated on November 4 for maintenance.

Five other workers injured in the incident are undergoing treatment.

According to OIL, fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the facility and launched fire-fighting operations to extinguish the fire by 12.30 p.m. on Friday (November 6, 2026).

Officials said OIL constituted an internal inquiry committee to investigate the incident, identify its immediate and underlying causes, assess damage and suggest proactive measures to prevent such incidents in future.
