Attempted murder-accused CPUT student due in court for bail application - EWN
A Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) student will appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court on Friday for a bail application on an attempted murder charge.
The 21-year-old man was arrested last week after allegedly stabbing another student at a South Point residence, where they both live.
The accused allegedly snuck into the first-year studentβs room and hid under her bed before attacking her at around 2am.
Outraged students gathered outside the Bellville Magistrates Court on Wednesday, calling for the accused to be denied bail.
They are also demanding that CPUT suspend him from both the university and students'Β residence.
Meanwhile, CPUT has confirmed its internal disciplinary matter will continue alongside the criminal one.
Itβs added that once the suspect is suspended, he will not be able to return to classes or access student residences.
