Attorney reveals Lane Kiffin used ChatGPT for legal advice during LSU's failed bid to add pro players
Lane Kiffin isn't just the head football coach at LSU.
He's reportedly a big fan of artificial intelligence, and it nearly sparked a nightmare scenario unfolding for the Tigers.
LSU was embroiled in controversy before a single snap of the season was played when Kiffin attempted to add former Ole Miss players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris to the roster.

The problem?
Wright and Harris both had both gone to the NFL on professional contracts. The situation sparked a standoff between LSU and the SEC that's best described as the Cuban Missile Crisis of sports.
Ultimately, Kiffin and LSU backed down and didn't add the two players. What motivated Kiffin to think he could win?
ESPN published an incredible report on Thursday shining a new light on the situation, and one detail stands out above the rest.

Kiffin relied on ChatGPT to justify how adding pro players would be okay, attorney Tom Mars โ a friend of the LSU head coach โ revealed to the outlet.
Mars explained, "Usually, when I would express an opinion about what LSU was doing, Lane would reply with a screenshot from ChatGPT that supported LSU's position, which was almost always wrong. Lane ignored most of my unsolicited advice, but I don't think he'll be using ChatGPT anymore for legal advice."
"Eventually, I told him that a guy with a $91 million contract ought to have a top-notch lawyer on speed dial and not be using ChatGPT for legal advice," Mars further told the outlet.

There's a reason major schools and highly-paid coaches have a roster of attorneys kept on standby for any issue that might come up.
