Aurangzeb highlights priorities for climate implementation at UNGA

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Friday highlighted the need to translate climate commitments into tangible results for communities during an event on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, Aurangzeb, who is in New York as part of Pakistan’s high-level delegation headed by the prime minister, made the remarks at the Climate Implementation Bridge (BRIDGE) event during the fourth day of his official visit. The finance minister identified three key requirements for effective climate implementation: a sound policy framework, access to finance and the capacity to deliver projects at the country level. Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan’s progress in strengthening its climate policy framework and its efforts to mobilise financing through domestic resources, international financial institutions, capital markets and climate funds, according to the ministry. Referring to the 2022 floods, Aurangzeb observed that some international support remained unutilised despite generous pledges. He said this underscored the importance of developing suitable projects and strengthening implementation capacity at the country level.
