Telangana government has issued orders revising the charges for traveling in autos. The minimum fare for 1.6 km has been fixed at ₹30 and for each subsequent kilometre, it is ₹14.
The fares for hiring the vehicles between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. will be one-and-half times the normal rate, according to a government order issued on Friday.
The minimum basic fare until now was ₹20 and ₹11 for every extra kilometre.
It also details the charges for extra luggage, directions to affix digital metres, time to set up the meters and other details. At the launch of Hyderabad Metro-Telangana RTC common pass launch in Hyderabad, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that the G.O. is released.
The meters should be adjusted so that the minimum fare of ₹30 is recorded when the vehicle is engaged, as per the order. After completing 1.6 km, it moves up at the rate of ₹1.40 for every one-tenth of a kilometre.
‘Detention charges’ for every minute is ₹0.75 paise. It also mentions ₹0.50 as charges for every package other than a briefcase, a hand bag, any attached case or bag less than 60x40 cms.
“The Transport Commissioner shall grant three months time from the date of issue or orders, for resetting the digital meter to the revised tariff in respect of existing meters,” the order reads. The existing and revised tariffs may be displayed in autos.
While most autorickshaw drivers do not ply by the meter, the new fares are likely to be incorporated by the ride-hailing apps for which customers will have to pay more.
